Where do the radar images come from?

The radar images used by the RadarSaver screensaver come from NOAA,
the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. RadarSaver facilitates the delivery
and presentation of a small portion of the information NOAA provides in convenient screensaver form.
Because the radar images come from the U.S. Govenment and are in the public domain,
there are no subscription fees to pay!

Why is there sometimes a lot of ground clutter in the radar images?

The radar images from NOAA are presented as-is, and sometimes include radar artifacts.
No warranty is expressed or implied by GUI-Dynamics or NOAA regarding the accuracy or timeliness
of the weather radar information presented by the RadarSaver screensaver. Higher quality radar images
may be available from other sources, but those sources are not in the public domain.
To keep your costs to a minimum and avoid any monthly subscription fee,
RadarSaver uses the best available free source of radar imagery.

Why are there sometimes problems downloading radar images?

The radar images from NOAA are sometimes in very high demand.
Often this is regional. If severe storms enter part of the country, NOAA's regional servers get heavy traffic.

Why isn't my city's Radar working?

Possible problems that can prevent RadarSaver from connecting to NOAA:

  • NOAA Outages - NOAA and its regional servers experience outages from time to time.
We strongly recommend troubleshooting with cities in other parts of the country.
  • DSL Configurations - often the connection timeout is too short (less than 15-20 minutes).
  • WiFi Configurations - often dropouts occur due to out-of-date firmware or 2.4Ghz interference.
  • Personal Firewall Software - for example, Norton Personal Firewall autoscans programs
to determine which are allowed to access the internet, and this may not include RadarSaver.
